6 Lost Cities in the World Found Successful
An overview of the city is populated civilization. Cities that had lost and rediscovered as present human civilization was buried. Some cities in the world these abandoned citizens because a variety of reasons ranging from war to natural disasters.
But the legacy remains of buildings have been found again and is now a protected world cultural heritage by UNESCO. Here are 6 of lost cities in the world to have been discovered from various sources:
1. Machu Picchu, Peru



Machu Picchu, which means "old mountain" also known as the 'Lost City of the Incas'. The city is located at an altitude, 2350 meters above sea level in the valley of Urubamba, Peru.
Machu Picchu is referred to as the most recognizable symbol of the Inca Empire. Ruins of the city which is considered as a unique architectural heritage of the Inca civilization was designated a World Heritage Site in 1983.
Machu Picchu was built around the year 1450, at the height of the Inca Empire. The city then abandoned less than 100 years later, as the empire collapsed under Spanish conquest. Although the citadel is located only about 50 miles from Cusco, the Inca capital, was never found and destroyed by the Spanish, like many other Inca relics.
For centuries abandoned city ruins eventually covered by dense forests. In 1911, historian and explorer Hiram Bigham makes Machu Picchu as the world's attention.
Hypothesis Bingham said that Machu Picchu is the traditional birthplace and spiritual center.
2. City of Angkor, Cambodia

 
Angkor has the important position of the Khmer empire that developed in the 9th century in Cambodia. In the building there is a row of the largest pre-industrial city and a world-renowned spiritual center.
The area was abandoned when the kingdom of Ayutthaya raided populated capital city of Khmer in 1431. This event urges people fled south to the Phnom Penh.
Having abandoned its inhabitants, Angkor remains of buildings covered by dense forests. In 2007, the city was visible from satellite photography process.
3. City of Memphis, Egypt

 
City of Memphis was the capital of Ancient Egypt which was established in the year 3100 BC. The city population was left with the rise of Thebes and Alexandria.
City of Memphis was lost for thousands of years until it was rediscovered by Napoleon's expedition in the late 1700s. In the reruntuhn also found relics pyramid of Pharaoh.
4. City of Petra, Jordan

 
Petra in Greek means rock, located in Jordan. Petra surrounded Mount Aaron (Jabal Harun) or Mount Hor or El-Barra. The building is in the form of city sculptures building stone walls engraved in 9 BC.
In the 14th century, the site was believed to be a holy place for Muslims, Jews and Christians. After the Crusades in the 12th century, Petra was subsequently lost for 500 years. Now she becomes a famous tourist destination in the history of the world and enter one of the UNESCO world cultural heritage.
5. City of Pompeii, the Roman
